System Operations Control & Crew Scheduling Manager

As we continue to grow, we are seeking an experienced and operationally focused Manager, System Operations Control & Crew Scheduling to join our team, based in Calgary, Alberta. In this leadership role, you will be responsible for providing strategic direction and oversight of Central Mountain Air’s integrated System Operations Control and Crew Scheduling functions, ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant execution of our daily flight operations.

Reporting to the Director, Flight Operations, you will play a critical role in balancing operational performance, customer service, crew resource management, and financial stewardship. Working collaboratively with key stakeholders across the organization, you will lead operational decision-making, manage disruptions, and drive continuous improvement initiatives that support the long-term success and growth of the airline.

Job Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

  • Lead the day-to-day operation of the System Operations Control Centre.

  • Maintain real-time oversight of the airline’s operational network.

  • Coordinate operational activities across Flight Dispatch, Crew Scheduling, Maintenance Control, Airports and other operational departments.

  • Provide leadership during normal operations and periods of operational disruption.

  • Ensure significant operational issues are escalated appropriately.

  • Foster a proactive, solutions-focused and accountable operational culture.

  • Lead daily operational briefings and recovery planning meetings as required.

Crew Scheduling Leadership

Provide leadership and strategic oversight of the Crew Scheduling department through the Crew Scheduling Supervisor by:

  • Ensuring crews are scheduled safely, legally and efficiently.

  • Monitoring staffing levels and reserve utilization.

  • Supporting operational recovery involving crew resources.

  • Reviewing crew scheduling performance and service levels.

  • Ensuring compliance with flight and duty time regulations.

  • Promoting fatigue risk management practices.

  • Identifying opportunities to improve scheduling processes and technology.

  • Supporting workforce planning and future staffing requirements.

  • Coaching and developing the Crew Scheduling Supervisor and scheduling team.

Operational Control & Decision Making

Provide leadership and coordination across:

  • Flight Dispatch

  • Crew Scheduling

  • Maintenance Control

  • Airport Operations

  • Charter Operations

  • Scheduled Services

  • Cargo Operations

  • Customer Care

  • Commercial Operations

Lead operational decision-making relating to:

  • Flight delays and cancellations

  • Aircraft substitutions

  • Aircraft routing and positioning

  • Crew recovery strategies

  • Operational disruptions

  • Charter prioritization

  • Schedule recovery

  • Resource allocation

Irregular Operations (IROPS)

Lead the operational response during events including:

  • Weather disruptions

  • Aircraft on Ground (AOG)

  • Air Traffic Control flow restrictions

  • Crew legality issues

  • Airport closures

  • Mechanical delays

  • Medical diversions

  • Security events

  • Network disruptions

  • Ensure operational recovery plans prioritize safety while minimizing customer disruption and operational costs.

Safety & Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure operational compliance with the Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs) and company policies.

  • Support and promote the company’s Safety Management System (SMS).

  • Participate in investigations, corrective actions and operational reviews.

  • Promote a strong culture of safety, professionalism and accountability.

  • Ensure operational decisions align with approved company manuals and regulatory requirements.

Leadership & People Development

  • Lead, mentor and support operational teams.

  • Recruit, develop and retain high-performing employees.

  • Establish clear performance expectations.

  • Conduct regular coaching and performance reviews.

  • Promote employee engagement and teamwork.

  • Support succession planning and leadership development.

  • Foster a collaborative and respectful work environment.

Financial Stewardship

Support sound operational decision-making by managing and monitoring costs associated with:

  • Crew overtime

  • Positioning flights

  • Hotel accommodations

  • Passenger recovery

  • Aircraft substitutions

  • Operational recovery initiatives

  • Crew deadheading

  • Schedule disruptions

  • Balance operational efficiency with safety, customer service and regulatory compliance.

Continuous Improvement

Lead and support initiatives that improve:

  • Operational reliability

  • On-time performance

  • Operational communication

  • Crew scheduling efficiency

  • Customer service

  • Technology and automation

  • Operational processes

  • Cost effectiveness

  • Cross-functional collaboration

  • Encourage innovation and continuous improvement throughout the operation.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 7–10 years of progressive airline operational experience.

  • Minimum 3–5 years of leadership or management experience.

  • Experience within a System Operations Control Centre, Flight Dispatch, Crew Scheduling, Flight Operations, Airport Operations or Maintenance Control environment.

  • Strong knowledge of the Canadian Aviation Regulations, preferably within a CARs 704 and/or 705 operation.

  • Post-secondary education in Aviation Management, Business or a related discipline is considered an asset.
