Accounting Analyst - Calgary, AB (YYC)

Central Mountain Air is proudly emerging as one of Canada’s leading regional airlines. As we continue to grow, we are seeking an Accounting Analyst to join our dynamic team based in Calgary, Alberta. In this role, you will be responsible for delivering forward-looking financial analysis, supporting data automation and management reporting, and providing meaningful insights to support internal decision-making, while also contributing to cross-functional operational support and business continuity. This position reports directly to the Financial Controller.

Job Responsibilities

  • Leverage Advanced Excel, Power Query, and Power BI to automate data workflows and dashboards.

  • Perform monthly budget-to-actual variance analysis for critical operational cost centers.

  • Track and distribute weekly and monthly operational scorecards and key airline performance metrics.

  • Identify transactional bottlenecks and design automated reconciliation templates.

  • Cross-train extensively in core operational accounting cycles to ensure departmental resilience.

  • Provide high-level backup and continuity for Accounts Payable team during peak periods and vacations.

  • Support Revenue functions, including passenger, cargo, and interline revenue reconciliations.

  • Assist with the preparation of year-end audit working papers, complex reconciliations, and schedules.

  • Investigate and resolve data discrepancies, transaction anomalies, and process inefficiencies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Data Analytics, or related field.

  • 2–4 years of progressive experience in an analytical or general accounting role.

  • Advanced Excel skills (advanced functions, and building scalable templates).

  • Strong practical experience using Power Query and Power BI to extract, clean, and transform data.

  • Solid understanding of management accounting concepts (variance analysis, cost trends, and performance metrics).

  • Ability to balance analytical tasks with hands-on operational support seamlessly.

  • Strong execution skills with the ability to manage deadlines and adapt quickly to shifting priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional accounting designation (CPA) or actively working towards a designation.

  • Experience in aviation, transportation, logistics environment.

  • Working knowledge of Sage 50 or similar ERP.
